About This Wine
Douro, Portugal. Red blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão,Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Sousão and Tinta Roriz and others. Practicing organic. This is perhaps the most iconic of Niepoorts ports. Dirk Niepoort calls it the "younger brother" of the Vintage Port as the grapes and vinification methods are the same. Both are made from a selection of full-bodied wines of high quality produced from a single year. The time this wine spends in large wooden vats aging (4-6 years) allows it to mature and settle down, being ready to drink young and right after bottling.
Established in 1842, Niepoort maintained a largely traditional approach until Dirk Niepoort brought fresh energy to the family business during the 1987 vintage. As a talented winemaker, communicator, and ambassador, Dirk championed the Douro's still wines alongside its fortified offerings. He also initiated the Do-Douro annual tasting, fostering a connection between the two wine styles. The Niepoort LBV spends four years maturing in large casks.
